Tips to Make Your House Hunt Go Smoothly | CBSHOME

  1. Get Pre-Approved

It would be so much fun to just look at houses in every price range and see the million-dollar home of your dreams. But when it comes to seriously searching for a home, this isn’t the best idea. It is best to know what you can afford up front so you don’t fall in love with a house that is way out of your price range. Getting pre-approved also helps your real estate agent to narrow down your home search for you.

  1. Look at House Styles

For a new homebuyer, it may be confusing to learn the different styles of houses there are: craftsman, Victorian, ranch, etc. But when talking with your real estate agent, knowing these styles may become a life saver. By telling your Realtor exactly what you want, your home search results will be more tailored to what you want to see. Do some research on sites like Pinterest and show your agent pictures of the house styles you like best.

  1. Research Neighborhoods

In many cities, especially Omaha, Nebraska, there are very distinct areas of town. Some people want to live near the Old Market, close to the hustle and bustle of the city. Others prefer to live out west in Elkhorn and have more space and quiet. Before starting your search, have a serious talk with your partner and decide what kind of life you’re looking for. You don’t have to know the exact area you want, but a general idea will make your house hunt go quicker and smoother.

  1. Keep an Open Mind

You may have your heart set on a brick Tudor in Dundee, but you may be potentially overlooking great options in other neighborhoods or styles. If your Realtor suggests taking a look at something else, be sure to remain unbiased and give it a chance. You never know, your dream home may be something you haven’t even seen yet!

  1. Talk to your CBSHOME Agent

Before you start touring homes every week, sit down with your agent and talk about what you expect from each other. Make sure you’re both on the same page and get along with each other. Start your search for your CBSHOME REALTOR® here.
