Making the choice to become a Realtor is a big step towards a new, prosperous career in real estate. If you have been thinking about a career change, let us help! We’ve got a list of the best qualities that every Realtor needs and how you can get in touch with the recruiting department at CBSHOME.
When your business relies on you going out, being friendly and meeting new people (aka: clients) you need to be able to step out of your comfort zone and get to know people! This means introducing yourself to potential clients everywhere you go. Putting yourself out there is just one part of the job in real estate. You’ll also have to be comfortable talking with other agents, customers and builders. Remember your business is built on referrals and word of mouth.
It’s easy to become overwhelmed and lose track of things when you’ve got multiple clients looking for different things. To keep on top of it, create a filing system to stay organized and keep the separate parts needed for each client combined. We suggest an online organizational system or using accordion-style folders that are portable. Also, be sure to mark your calendar with reminders so you arrive where you need to be on time! Which brings us to our next quality…
No one likes waiting for someone, especially when they’re trusting this person with all of their real estate needs. If you have a habit of being tardy, set reminders on your phone for 30 minutes prior to your meeting so you arrive on time, or even better – early. When showing houses to your clients, sellers only leave their home for a certain amount of time, so you need to ensure you and your clients are on time to view the house.
If real estate had a motto it would be, ‘the only constant is that it’s always changing!’ As a Realtor, you need to be able to go with the flow and understand that things can change at the drop of a hat. A deal could fall through, an inspection could come back bad or clients can change their minds. As a real estate professional, you need to be the calm voice of reason and offer other options or solutions that satisfy everyone involved.
Your clients will expect you to be professional. Your job is to get the best deal possible for your clients which means being assertive when necessary. If you know someone is being unethical or that your clients are getting the run around, step up to the plate and take care of it. At the end of the day, your job relies on impeccable customer service. A happy client is a repeat client!
