Steve & Vicki Holcomb, both Realtors with CBSHOME, have been working hard to make a difference in Omaha with their project, Little Free Pantry of Omaha. We’ve all heard of the free libraries that are popping up in cities all over the country, and this project is essentially a free library for food.
Many food pantries have strict operating hours or even require a photo ID in order for families in need to receive food. With the installation of the Little Free Pantries throughout the Omaha area, people in need are able to help themselves to free food when they need it.
This social project started in Fayetteville, Arkansas and has started to quickly spread throughout the nation. Thankfully, the Holcombs have brought this project right into Omaha. Many people may be surprised to know that a whopping 14.2% of the general population in Douglas County suffer with food insecurity.
If you would like to help, you can have a Little Free Pantry installed on your property. The pantry will be built and installed by volunteers, and you would be responsible for stocking it throughout the year. Another way to help is to help stock other pantries throughout the city by donating food and personal items.
