Looking for something to do this weekend?  The second largest rodeo in the world comes to Omaha this weekend!  The Ak-Sar-Ben River City Rodeo & Stock Show started in 1982 and offers lots of options for entertainment and family fun!  The event runs September 27th through September 30th at Omaha’s Century Link Center.

The weekend’s events include:

• Concerts:  Including country music stars Jake Owen and Diamond Rio.
• Justin Boots Championship Rodeo:  This event showcases ninety-six cowboys who compete over a seven-month period to earn their trip to Omaha.
• BBQ Contest
• Displays and Events:  Several different interactive events for people of all ages.
• Family Fun:  Omaha Now and Then display, AgVentureland and 4H Events!

CBSHOME Real Estate’s Habitat for Humanity Build kicks-off tomorrow morning! Our West Dodge Office begins work framing the house located at 31st and Meredith.

The very deserving family started their partnership with Habitat back in December 2011.  Since then, they have put in their “sweat equity” hours and are very excited to start building their new home with CBSHOME.  They had always wanted to own their own home and provide a safe place for their family.

Those of us living in and around the Omaha Metro area will not be able to say “there’s nothing going on” this weekend!  The area has several events happening on this last weekend before Labor Day.  If you are looking for something to do – here are a few local options to check out:

• The Offutt Air Force Base “Defenders of Freedom” Air Show: This local event is Saturday and Sunday, August 27th and 28th.  It’s a free event and the gates are open from 9 AM to 5 PM.  There will be performances from the F-15E Strike Eagle Demo Team, The Golden Knights, a B-2 Flyby and many more.  There will also be displays setup and vendors to visit.  There are many different shuttles and parking options, so make sure to visit the Directions & Parking page to plan ahead!
• Dundee Days: This event is located at 50th and Underwood and is Saturday, August 27th.  It kicks off in the morning with a Pancake Feed and wraps up with an evening of music and drinks.  Here is a link to view the Dundee Days flyer.
• Omaha Fashion Week: This annual event wraps up this weekend with its Runway Finale.  This event is located in Omaha’s Old Market District at Nomad Lounge on 1013 Jones St.  There are over 90 designers that have applied to be in this years show, accompanied by nearly 400 models and hundreds of volunteers.  You must purchase tickets in advance for tomorrow’s event.
• Millard Days: Here’s another annual event that wraps up this weekend.  Saturday is a parade, carnival, beer garden and live music.  Sunday features a Family Activity Tent from 12 noon to 3:00 PM with face painting, balloon characters and more!  The event is free to the public and is located at 136th and Q Streets.  Here is a link to the complete schedule of events.

Omaha, Nebraska was recently named the #1 Best Value City for 2011 by Kiplinger Magazine.  The article, featured on their website, gives Omaha high marks for our low cost of living and low unemployment rate.  It also states that we have five Fortune 500 companies and “arguably more millionaires per capita than any other U.S. metro area.”

So, why do they like Omaha so much?  Isn’t it obvious?  We’re an affordable and fun city!  Between reasonable housing and several free or low-cost entertainment options, Omaha has lots of things to offer!

• Jazz on the Green: A summer concert series at MidTown Crossing.  This free event runs through August 11th.
• Joslyn Art Museum: Omaha’s art museum, close to downtown.  While admission is inexpensive, they also offer free admission every Saturday from 10 AM – 12 Noon.
• Lauritzen Gardens: Omaha’s Botanical Garden Center has 100 acres of gardens to explore by foot or tram, and admission is very inexpensive.
• The Slowdown: Omaha’s local band hotspot!  It’s located in the North Downtown area of Omaha, near TD Ameritrade Park.  Also in the area are several restaurants and bars.
• The Old Market: Another popular attraction in Omaha!  Several dining options, shopping, night life and arts and attractions.  This is a favorite spot of Omaha locals!

We know Omaha is a great city to live in!  If you’re new to Omaha, planning to relocate, or just looking for new things to do – explore Omaha – It’s worth it (and we aren’t the only ones who think so)!

Yesterday (June 21st) was the first day of Summer!  And with summer in Omaha comes several summer activities for you and your family to take advantage of!  The Omaha Convention and Visitors Bureau has a great website with tons of upcoming community events that you may want to take advantage of!  Here are just a few of the upcoming events:

• Village Pointe Farmers Market:  Every Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM until October 1st.
• Friday Night Music Series:  Located at Soaring Wings Vineyard, runs through October 28th
• Aksarben Village BluesFest:  June 25th from 4 – 1o PM
• Bank of the West Celebrates America:  July 1st from 6 – 1o PM at Memorial Park.  Omaha’s annual free live concert and fireworks show

Leadership Omaha Class 33 graduated this morning (Thursday, June 16th) at a ceremony held at Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.

Leadership Omaha, a program of the Greater Omaha Chamber, is a 10-month study of community issues, designed to develop effective leaders who will strengthen and transform the community. Class members are chosen based on their demonstrated community involvement and career advancement.

“We are very proud of Joe’s participation and graduation from the Leadership Omaha Class 33.  We feel Joe’s participation in this program exemplifies what our company stands for by giving back to the community which provides all us the opportunity to work and live in a healthy and vibrant city,” said Joe Valenti, CEO and President of CBSHOME Real Estate.

The Omaha Chamber of Commerce has its Annual Buy the Big O! Show on Wednesday, October 13th at the Qwest Center!

This annual event is the region’s largest business-to-business trade show.  It features over 350 exhibitors and close to 6,000 people attend.  This event also features great presentations for business professionals!  These presentations range from Branding and Marketing your Small Business to Tips on “Greening” your Home or Business.
