Council Bluffs is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Omaha – and it is such a fun place to go! We especially love the downtown area, which is full of fun community events, interesting museums and great places for a night out. Whether you’re looking for a fun night out on the town, a family day or some fresh food from the farmers market, downtown Council Bluffs is the place to go!

EAT

Dixie Quicks is the quintessential place for Southern American cuisine. Head over for brunch on the weekends, or stop by for lunch or dinner! We recommend ordering the homemade chilaquiles. Another great restaurant located in the Hundred Block of Council Bluffs is Barley’s. You just have to try their Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla. If you’ve got a hankering for some good BBQ with a side of bull riding, check out the Rodeo Saloon & BBQ. We also love the 1892 German Bier Haus for authentic German cuisine with lots of delicious German beer on tap.

DRINK

Catch the game at T’z Sports Pub, a local sports bar owned by a former Iowa football player. For the beer pong champions, Broadway Bar & Lounge has beer pong tables set up in the basement and great drinks for a value price! Named for the famous Council Bluffs black squirrels, The BLK Squirrel is a great bar for a fun night out with friends. Choose from beer, spirits and even cigars in this unique bar located on the Hundred Block.

DO + SEE

There is so much to see around Downtown Council Bluffs, but we must mention the Bayliss Park Fountain, Broadway Fountain and Veteran’s Plaza. Head over to a museum for a super fun day activity. They have the RailsWest Railroad Museum, the Historic General Dodge House and the UP Railroad Museum. Check the calendar and head over to DT CB for one of their car shows, bike rides, or even join the Shamrock Shuffle which is coming up. Council Bluffs has one of the freshest farmers markets around! Head over for some fresh fruits and vegetables, sweet honey and freshly popped kettle corn!
